Warren Joseph Hynes

Warren J. Hynes of Springfield, Virginia passed away quietly February 7th 2021 at 97. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Gertrude Claire (Walsh) Hynes, His children Kenneth Hynes and Corinne Abbitt (Hynes), Mark and Phyllis (Hynes) Haas, Edward Hynes, and Grandson Christopher Haas, as well as numerous Nieces and Nephews. He was the last of ten brothers and sisters: Waldo Hynes; Franklin Hynes; and Eleanor Carlson all of Harvard, Edward Hynes of Worcester, John Hynes of Pepperell, Abigail Squires of Ohio, Catherine Clark; Barbara Cote; and Marion Woods all of Ayer. Warren was born in Harvard Massachusetts to Franklyn and Christine (Sawyer) Hynes. He graduated Ayer High School in 1942 and served in the Army Air Force. He received a BS in Business from Boston University and a BS in Accounting from Bentley's School of Accounting and Finance. Following College he worked as an Auditor at Spark-Mann & Company. In 1961 he moved to Springfield Virginia to work for US Naval Department. He later transferred to the National Science Foundation retiring as Deputy Director of Audit after 30 years of government service. After retirement he went into private accounting for several years. Though he spent most of his adult life in Virginia his roots were always in Massachusetts returning there frequently. In retirement he enjoyed traveling. He was a member of LLI and through them he and "Trudy" enjoyed educational trips both in the U.S. and overseas.
