Tribute to Victor Moraru Hoffman

Victor Moraru Hoffman passed away on May 14, 2023.  He had not yet reached his 30th birthday.  But in the time that he had, Victor led a remarkable life.    Victor was born in Bucharest, Romania, but from age four grew up in Paris, France.  In Paris he attended and graduated from the International School of Paris, which had a very diverse student body from around the world, including children of French and American movie stars and directors.  He loved to explore Paris – for years he did it mainly by bike – and visited his friends around the city.  He was a natural athlete who was spotted by coaches as a potential tennis prodigy, but that was not the path he chose.  By the time Victor left Paris for college, he spoke three languages well:  Romanian, French and English.

For college Victor decided to enroll at the University of Greenwich in London, UK.  Among his possible choices, what drew him to Greenwich was its location in London and its advantage of having one of the most beautiful campuses in Europe.  The university had moved into the Old Royal Naval College, a UNESCO World Heritage Site designed by Christopher Wren, built between 1696 and 1712.  Here Victor had another brush with the movie industry, since scenes from Thor:  The Dark World were filmed there while Victor was in residence, just one of the dozens of film productions that made use of the locale over the years.  At Greenwich Victor obtained a Bachelor of Business Management, Economics, Leadership and Organizational Behavior, and graduated with First-Class Honors.

He began his business career in London, then after reflection on the bureaucratic obstacles to carrying out business projects in the UK, he emigrated to Virginia where his parents were based.  There he worked as a manager at CompuGain, which was acquired by Unisys, where he was employed when he passed away.

Victor’s charm, kindness, enthusiasm and ever-present smile made him friends all over the world.  Aside from the four countries in which he lived over the years, he spent lengthy time visiting friends in countries as diverse as Bulgaria and South Africa.  If he had had the chance, he certainly would have visited other friends in their countries of origin.  He had a bright future ahead in the business world, but this was sadly cut short.

Victor is survived by his grieving parents, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, many friends and his sweetheart.
