Ruth Olivia Tart
October 5, 1923 ~ August 12, 2023 (age 99) 99 Years Old
Ruth was the eldest of seven children born and raised in Maury County, Tennessee. After WWII she came to Washington, DC to work for the Department of the Navy. She met her husband Lynwood Daniel Tart through mutual acquaintances and married in 1951. Together they ran Tart Lumber Company in Northern Virginia. They were married 57 years before her husband passed in 2008. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday this October.
Ruth was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 63 years. She was an active supporter of the Girl Scouting program and the Church of Christ's Tennessee Children's Home. A true southern gentlewoman, Ruth is admired for her kindness and generosity.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Olivia Akers and Elizabeth Tart (Craig) Fritsche, brother, Billy (Carolyn) Farris, and two sisters-in-law, Sara Farris and Lynn Farris. She has three grandchildren, Aimee Akers, Olivia (David) Bean, and Virginia (Elijah) Lewis, and five great-grandchildren, George Fairman, Max Fairman, Lilith Fairman, Henry Bean, and Caldwell Bean. She was predeceased by her sister, Linda (Joseph) Bell, and brothers, Clyde Farris, Herbert Farris, James Farris, and Glenn Farris.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Everly Funeral Home, 6161 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, Virginia at 11:00 a.m. with interment immediately following at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Boulevard, Arlington, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Tennessee Children's Home, Box 10, Spring Hill, TN 37174-0010.
