Reginald Walker Gibson

July 31, 1927 ~ December 9, 2018 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Tribute

Hon. Reginald W. Gibson was born July 31, 1927 to the late McCoy M. Gibson and Julia A. Gibson in Lynchburg, Virginia.  On December 9, 2018, Judge Gibson was called home to eternal rest by our loving God.

Judge Gibson attended the public schools in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Cardozo High School in 1945.  He served in the United States Army and was stationed in the Philippines (1946-47).  Following military service, Judge Gibson graduated from Virginia Union University in 1952 with a B.S. in accounting.  Thereafter, he attended and graduated from Howard University School of Law in 1956.

Professionally, Judge Gibson’s commitment to the legal profession encompassed positions as an IRS Agent, U.S. Treasury Department, Internal Revenue Service (1957-61), Trial Attorney, Tax Division, Criminal Section, U.S. Department of Justice (1961-71) and General Tax Attorney, International Harvester Company (1971-82).  His dedication to personal and professional excellence along with an unblinking commitment to the rule-of-law culminated in President Ronald W. Reagan appointing him to the United States Court of Federal Claims on December 10, 1982.

Judge Gibson enjoyed cerebral conversations, travel, NFL football and swinging the golf club on the weekends.  Additionally, he enjoyed fine dining at his favorite D.C. restaurants and was a “foodie” before the word was invented.

Judge Gibson leaves behind the following family members to cherish his memory: Ernestine King (sister), Reginald S. Gibson, Jr. (son), Michael D. Gibson (nephew), Melva Gibson Wagner (niece), Joseph B. Gibson (nephew), Kelly Gibson (niece), Morgan Gibson (niece), Julian Gibson (nephew), Kendall Wagner (niece), Janet S.
