Mary Virginia Findley of Falls Church, VA, passed away early on July 23, 2023, surrounded by her adoring family. Virginia was born in Springfield, MO on September 10, 1927, the eldest child of Lester and Amanda Holt of Buffalo, MO. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Cecil Rowe Findley, an editor at National Geographic Magazine, and by her brother Lawrence and sister Evelyn. She is survived by her sons David (Marlene), Stephen (Pamela), and John (Susan), granddaughters Anna Keenan (Sean) and Rebecca Findley, and great-granddaughters B. and I. V. Keenan.
Virginia was a former music teacher, photographer, and publicity director for the Northern Virginia Youth Symphony. She took great delight in bears and bunnies, birds and flowers, and the grand landscapes of nature, often capturing them in her beautiful photographs. She easily shared her passions for nature and great music, inspiring her family and many others with her knowledge and enthusiasm. She was a long time member of First Christian Church, Falls Church, where she served as an Elder and CWF leader, among other roles, and graced the church choir with her beautiful alto voice. Her enthusiasm for life and her joyful laughter ensured that she made friends wherever she went. She was a woman of great faith who loved her family deeply, and was deeply loved in return.
A celebration of her life will be held on September 23, 2023 at First Christian Church of Falls Church. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
