James Edward Beck, former resident of Atlanta and Lake Oconee, Georgia, passed away on September 15, 2018. Jim spent the last 3 years of his life in McLean, Va, as a resident of The Sylvestery Memory Care Center.
Jim was born in Richmond, Virginia, on January 31, 1931.
Jim graduated from Benedictine College Preparatory School in Richmond, the University of Richmond, and received his MBA from Harvard University. While in college, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa. He served in the United States Marine Corps before he began his professional life at Scott Paper Company in Philadelphia. The majority of Jim’s career was spent at Kidder Peabody in Atlanta, Ga.
Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, Emil and Mary Beck, and 4 siblings.
Jim is survived by his wife, Judi, his children Shannon Kilborn (Bill) and Darren Beck (Melissa), as well as 5 grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his two stepsons, Tyler Thornhill (Joelle) and Barrett Thornhill (Jennifer) and 4 grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held at Christ the King Cathedral, Peachtree Rd, Atlanta, Georgia, on October 5, 2018 at 10:30 am.
Friends and family are requested to join the family at Ansley Golf Club, 196 Montgomery Ferry Dr, Atlanta, following the service.
