Henry Bohn McCaulley

December 12, 1924 ~ September 20, 2019 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Tribute

Captain Henry Bohn McCaulley, 94, of McLean, VA, passed away September 16, 2019, at the Virginia Hospital Center after a short battle with lung cancer.

He was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on December12, 1924, to Ray and Minnie McCaulley. Hank spent his early youth in Grand Island before moving to Los Angeles, California where his father worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He went on to graduate from West Hollywood High School and then received both his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Studies in 1945, and his Master’s in Business Administration in 1952, from Stanford University.  During this time, Hank served as an Aviator in the Pacific during the Second World War and later fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He often told people around him that the Navy was his second family and that the Navy allowed him to do two things he loved to do: help his country and fly airplanes. Upon his retirement from the Navy in 1976, he served as President of Advanced Data Management and later for the Flight Safety Foundation.

He married his wife Margo Meinert McCaulley in 1965, and they resided in Coronado, California, Warminster, Pennsylvania, and Falls Church, Virginia. They had two children, Margo and John and remained active in their Lake Barcroft neighborhood and the Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club. They both enjoyed their family, friends, aviation, and trying to give back to their community.  Margo and Hank were married for forty-five years until her passing in 2010. He then moved into the loving arms of Vinson Hall Retirement Community in 2017 and enjoyed being a resident with many wonderful people around him.

Hank is survived by his daughter Margo McCaulley Lee and son John McCaulley, son-in-law William Arthur Fitzhugh Lee, daughter-in-law Lisa McCaulley, his four grandchildren William Arthur Fitzhugh Lee II, Caroline Hayley Lee, Afton Elizabeth Lee, Henry Ascher Lee, his niece Melissa Keane, his brother-in-law Rolf Meinert and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Meinert.

A memorial service will take held on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00 PM at Everly Funeral Home, 6161 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22044.  In lieu of flowers, we wish for donations to be sent to the Rotary Club of Bailey’s Crossroads Foundation, P.O. Box 1510, Falls Church, VA 22041.
