Emmanuel Atienza Conty Jr.

June 14, 1940 ~ May 28, 2019 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Tribute

Emmanuel A. Conty, Jr., husband and father, passed away on Tuesday, 28 May, 2019 due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. He was 78. Born in the Philippines on June 14, 1940, Emmanuel – Jun or Junior, as he was called by those who knew him best – was the sixth and youngest child to Emmanuel Recto Conty and Teofila Atienza Conty. He graduated from Ateneo de San Pablo High School and attended the University of the East. In February 1967 he traveled with two friends to the United States, in hopes of pursuing the American Dream. After a short time living and working in New York City, Emmanuel moved to Washington DC. On March 16, 1969, he married Alma Cabreza  Samonte, and together they raised three sons – David, Donnie, and Emmanuel Dean, and a daughter, Diana, in Falls Church, Virginia.

Prior to his diagnosis with Parkinson’s Disease, Emmanuel was an avid golfer and gardener. He won a number of awards for his golf skills, and for years his family, friends, and neighbors benefitted from his green thumb every summer with an abundance of fresh vegetables being given away at every opportunity. While he did not cook often, Emmanuel was very proud of perfecting his recipe for leche flan; holiday gatherings always included at least one of his signature desserts.

Emmanuel was preceded in death by his father, Emmanuel Sr., and his mother, Teofila, along with his siblings Maria Luisa Conty Marella, Ramon, Antonio, Jose, and Milagros Conty Cease. He is survived by his wife – Alma – along with their children – David and his wife Wendy, Donnie, Diana, and Emmanuel Dean and his wife Lindsay and their daughter Corlia – along with a number of Emmanuel’s cousins, nieces, and nephews.
