Tribute

    Barbara Norrie Field, 90, of Falls Church, passed away on January 13, 2022.  She was born July 14, 1931, in Toronto, Canada to Ernest Howson Norrie and Dorothy Margaret Gilchrist Norrie.  

    Barbara's family moved to Florida in 1939.  She graduated from Manatee High School in Bradenton, Florida in 1949, where she was a majorette and Jamboree Queen.  After graduation, she moved to the Washington area and worked as a secretary for the FBI.  She met Donald E. Field on a blind date and later married him in 1954.  She was a housewife and mother, who also worked in a childcare facility.  She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, in Arlington Virginia, and volunteered in their Thrift Shop.

   Barbara loved to travel and enjoyed adventures.  Some of those included riding an elephant in India; cruising the Amazon; snowmobiling through Yellowstone; taking a Segway tour of Washington DC; taking a tundra buggy in Northern Canada to watch polar bears; and climbing Mt. Vesuvius in Italy. She was also a medalist in the local senior Olympics and an avid Duckpin bowler.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved to crochet and do jigsaw puzzles.

   In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her Husband, Donald E. Field, brother Donald Norrie, sister Beverly Holmes, and companion Roderick Atkinson.  She is survived by a brother, John A. Norrie (Jan) of Florida and sister-in-law Barbara F. Rose of Ashburn, VA; daughters, Julia F. Ragland (Stan) of Green Bay, VA, Pamela F. Choe of Gaithersburg, MD., Donna E. Field (Tom Cahill) of Falls Church, VA, and Diana E. Field-Brittain (Dan) of Falls Church, VA; 10 grandchildren, Benjamin Ragland, Joshua Ragland (Brandy), Hannah Eure (Troy Anderson), Sarah Lewis (Taylor), Sean Thompson (Rebecca), Cory Thompson (Christie), Brittney Choe, Bethany Brittain, Austin Brittain and Alexander Brittain; 10 great grandchildren, JC and Eli Ragland, Sterling Martin, Jackson Anderson, Shelby and Lydia Eure, Malachi Lewis, Aubrey Thompson and Elliott and Emelia Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.

   A service of remembrance will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Everly Funeral Home (6161 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church) followed by interment at 1:00 pm at Columbia Gardens Cemetery (3411 Arlington Blvd. Arlington).  A Celebration of Life Memorial Service to be held in the future.  In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
