Azucena Bortle

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, Azucena “Susanna” Bortle, passed away at the age of 83 years on September 28, 2020. She joins her parents and brother, Luis Carlos.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Bruce Jr. (Victoria), Grandchildren: Camille and Bruce III (Alejandra), and great grandchildren: Carmelo, Ethan, Leila, as well as her sister Alba (Alan). She will also be dearly missed by her friends at Saint Agnes Church.

Azucena was born in Bogota, Colombia, South America on March 31, 1937 to Luis Carlos and Maria Cecilia De Mendoza. In 1963, she immigrated to the United States where she raised her son, Bruce Jr. She was deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren, Camille and Bruce III, from when they were babies to becoming parents themselves. She loved her great-grandchildren and relished her time with them. She was a dedicated parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, and sister. She shared a special bond with her younger sister Alba all through her life.

Music, drawing, painting, and gardening brought her immense joy. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and served the Church in as many ways as she could. She made friends everywhere, but had especially meaningful relationships with those of her parish.

Her memorial service and mass will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Agnes Church, 1910 N. Randolph St., Arlington, VA 22207.
