Janice M. Gaynor, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at Alexandria Hospital, in Alexandria, Virginia.  She was born Janice Corinne Marsh on October 10, 1929, in Newton, New Jersey, and was one of six children born to William and Viola Marsh.  Raised in Flanders, New Jersey, her elementary school was a two room schoolhouse.  She was the first one in her family to attend college, graduating with a music degree from Westchester State Teacher’s College.    She later earned a Masters in Education from the University of Virginia.  She married Richard Thomas Gaynor in 1955 and they had two children, Richard Brian Gaynor and Kevin Thomas Gaynor.  She was a much loved elementary school teacher, predominantly in Arlington County, for over thirty years.  She maintained contact with many of her students, attended many of their weddings and loved being updated about their lives.  She received countless awards for her teaching and even appeared in a volume of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. 

Janice is survived by her two loving sons, Kevin Gaynor and his wife Barbara, Brian Gaynor and his wife Pam, as well as her two dear grandsons, Jack and Ben Gaynor. She also is survived by two brothers, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Following Janice's wishes, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
