December 17, 1918 ~ January 21, 2017 (age 98) 98 Years Old

On January 21st, 2017 Elizabeth Martha Copp née Dotzlaf passed away peacefully in her home of over 57 years surrounded by her family and the caregivers of Capital Caring Hospice after a hospital stay due to pneumonia and a secondary lung infection.

Born in Cleveland Ohio on December 17, 1918 to the late Martha and Heinrich Dotzlaf, Elizabeth, or Betty, as she was known by her family and close friends, enjoyed a life full of adventure and hard work with her 4 siblings Lydia, Olga, Eddie and Hank. After attending business college, she enlisted in the WAC (Women's Army Corps) during World War II in October 1942 earning her endearing nickname "Dotzie" and was stationed overseas at RAF Daws Hill with the US Army in High Wycombe, England. During her service with the Army she earned the rank of Staff Sergeant which was quite the accomplishment during that time.
During her service she moved to Germany,  In 1948 in Heidelberg Germany she married Army Captain Franklin Harold Copp (1915-1992) who would later retire as a full bird Colonel in the US Army. They would go on to travel all around the world including Europe and Africa.
Betty and Frank had two children, Ronald and Karen and would move back to the United States in 1959 to Falls Church, Va. where she lived until her passing.
She loved gardening, the outdoors and sports.
She loved to square foot garden and grew many fruits and vegetables in her expansive backyard garden beds.
She also loved birds and wildlife and was an avid bird watcher always loving when the cardinals would come to her feeders.
Her favorite sports team was the Washington Redskins and she could be found watching the games and cheering loudly (or yelling at the ref!) on game days
She enjoyed many pastimes including bowling, golf, softball, Bridge, and traveling.
She was an active member of Lyon Park Fellowship Church in Arlington, Virginia and loved her church family.
As a World War II Veteran, she was honored in many ways including attending the opening ceremony dedicating the Woman's War Memorial, being presented with a handmade quilt at the Women's War Memorial on Veteran's Day 2014 and at Disney's Magic Kingdom in August of 2015 as the veteran of the day in their flag ceremony.
She is survived by her son Ronald Copp of Centreville, Va his wife Anne Copp and two grandsons, Andrew and James Copp, her Daughter Karen  Kallio of Falls Church and her four granddaughters   and their spouses Michelle & Oliver Veizaga, Emily & Kyle Hoover, Samantha & Wilmer Diaz , and Lily & Gabriel Rios. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren Gabriel, Elizabeth, Austin, Bryan, Caleb, Hunter, Raymond, Isabelle, and George, and nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and their families.

The family invites you to a viewing and picture Memorial to be held on February 2nd, 2017 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Everly Community Funeral Care, 6161 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22044.

Elizabeth will be interred with her dear husband in a military honors funeral at Arlington National Cemetery, date to be determined.
